Welcome to the Dutch team who built their own electric motor-in-axel to convert offroad cars into 100% electric offroad cars: only change the drive not the car. You read it all here.

Brief explanation

I explain how easily we change the drive, explains the innitiator over a cup of coffee: “You have 2 axles located between the (front and rear) wheels underneath the car. These two axles will be swapped for our two electric axles. It fits your car. We have built new electric motors into the centre of the axles. You understand that your internal combustion engine is no longer needed. You can also get rid of your gearbox, transfer box and drive axles. You will spend more time dismantling than fitting our axles under your car, including the strong battery boxe, safely between the chassis. By you, we just mean your own garage around the corner.”

Our team started developing in 2015, also all government offroad cars in mind.

We are the only ones to have adopted this solution. Why? By far the highest efficiency between battery and the road. We remove all the gears inbetween the fuel engine and the wheels. Gears only take power from the battery for nothing. Many gears are spinning around, all consuming energy. And we remove the fuel engine offcourse. It frees up a lot of space and weight together that we use for our e-drive now. An electric motor has power from standstill. So all those gears are no longer needed.

We return more electric power and a lower centre of gravity to your car. While the weight is the same as before. We can drive an ample distance of 400 kilometres (250 miles) with a battery of 85kWh. Your car gets a second life, a very clean life for the next 40 years. We tried to calculate how much dirt this saves, it is huge. Also important is that your Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) will be 70+ % lower compared to continuing to drive your car on fuel. We calculated a break even between 4 and 6 years.

Fuel burning is slowly coming to an end, whether we like it or not. There’s a lot of bla bla around the rapid deterioration of nature. The IPCC.ch link is very clear. We have many more links to read and graphics to watch.

Right now ending 2024, there are millions fuel 4×4 trucks driving around. A 4×4 truck pollutes six times more than a normal car. Unless the fuel propulsion can be replaced by electric. All fuel cars are going to disappear, including your beloved off-road vehicle, take it to the scrapyard or convert it. That is the question. (shakespeare)

The other good news is that electric driving is less expensive than continue to drive on fuel.

Why has the Land Rover Defender become such a darling?

I think Jeremy Clarkson sums it up best: “It’s what non-car people don’t get. They see all cars as just a ton and a half, two tons of wires, glass, metal, and rubber, and that’s all they see. People like you or I know we have an unshakable belief that cars are living entities… You can develop a relationship with a car and that’s what non-car people don’t get… When something has foibles and won’t handle properly, that gives it a particularly human quality because it makes mistakes, and that’s how you can build a relationship with a car that other people won’t get”.

But, you have seen some different brands of off-road vehicles in the pictures. That’s right, our electric axles are tailor-made for almost all types of off-road vehicles. Our set can even be fitted in the future mild-hybrid off-road vehicles of all brands (to change to 100% electric). Bam.

Our electric axle is custom-made for your car, no matter what make you have. Land Rovers (Range Rover, Defender, Discovery), Toyota’s (Landcruiser), Jeep (Grand Cherokee), Mercedes-G (ML, Steyr), BMW X4 X5), Nissan, Mitsubishi (Pajero), Suzuki, VW (Touareg, Amarok), Porsche (Cayenne), the list grows by the month. During design, only the track width and the attachment of the shock absorber or guided axles turned out to be slightly different. no big problem. Either the rim type or the brakes are easy for us to change while making. We started as a kid electric, why not as adults follow through with it?

START PROJECT

The first ideas arose in our team to run our own Land Rovers cleaner. No more little diesel particles spreading around and see the smoke in the mirror. Or gpl/gas fumes out of our Range Rovers V8. An economically smart thing to do and a reasonable pay back period.

All our lives (since 1977) we have driven Land Rovers and Range Rovers, so right away we found the name for this: e-Rovers

We tackle the conversion to electric rigorously, we do not simply bolt an electric motor to the gearbox, no. To explain this briefly, we do manage to install a strong electric motor in the same place as the old differential: inside the axle. It is then easier and stronger to remake and redesign the whole shaft/axel, with the electric motor already in it. Your truck has 2 axels, front and rear, so 2 electric axels in one set.

At the end we designed and built our own electric motor, because the electric motor was not made anywhere yet. The stong e-motor that we need for this design, small with so much pulling power (torque) and lightweight. More on this at the page Prices & Specs.

An additional advantage of building the electric motor in the company: we are now independent of any manufacturer or availability.

The axel set is produced entirely in the Netherlands and will be shipped worldwide. The installation (converting work) is done at your local garage. This gives e-Rovers company an advantage over other companies that also convert to electric. No developing hours (costs) per truck is required and it takes very few man hours to install our set: 2 days maximum. (an experienced team of 2 does it in 1 day)

Driving our EV offroad car is fun, more torque, stronger roadholding, lower centre of gravity, faster and silent. Clean with bonus: your 4×4 truck “feels” like it have 280 Horspower now.

Yes, finaly the convertion we wanted for ourself in 2015 is for sale today.

At the forefront

The Netherlands are one of the most densely populated areas in the world and below sea level. We have too many cars, cows, pigs, chickens, iron- and chemical plants and tulips. Perhaps we feel the need doing something about global warming a bit more, even though we are a very small country. The sea is comming up because of heating up the earth … We are going to produce and supply these sets world wide, because:

The “transition” to a cleaner World, we believe, will take at least 25 years in time or more.

Waiting to convert to electric now is “Penny wise and Pound foolish“. (Francis Meres 1600, recovered by Rowan Atkinson?) And especially if you can charge at home with your solar. Then the total investment solar & electric driving is much cheaper to consider in the pay-back period.
