CHANGE THE DRIVE, NOT THE CAR

The e-Rovers philosophy for an indestructible offroad Electric Vehicle (EV), that you already own.

Plug in: we are now building that solution, which you can purchase for less than €45,000, including the battery pack for 400 km/250 miles. Keep your 4×4 truck/car, just change the drive to 100% electric. And we go even further we only change the differential to an electric drive. You can’t get any closer to the wheel without doing a lot of rebuilding.

So the rest of the 4×4 rugged car remains completely the same, except that we remove the emission-causing fuel engine, all three gearboxes and, of course, the cooling radiator, fuel tank. Other EV-converters only bold an electric motor direct on the gearbox and retain the the old stuff driveline, including the 35% loss of gears and tears. This immediately demonstrates our approach. As a result we require 35% fewer batteries and so carry less weight because we drastically reduce the gears-resistance ánd weight. We will return to this later.

This site is not just a story to persuade you to buy our product. No, it is an explanation of the whole process of why it is wise to convert your car to electric tomorrow.

We offer a straightforward conversion method using our two electric axles as an independent electric drive unit. You can easily bolt them under any 4×4 vehicle (both systems: the classic rigid axles or with variable suspension drive shafts). The costs are listed on page 1. Your local garage/shop does the convertion for you.

Connected to e-Rovers own indestructible battery boxes, gives you twice as much power (Hp) and more force (torque) from a standstill. These boxes can be filled with all brands of cells. New or used and pre-heated in winterime. Bi-directional connected to your home as an option.

Range 400km/250miles. Charging 10 minutes for every 100km/60miles. Your local garage can fix this; no specialist is needed. We sent the sets out to you worldwide.

This is a great deal of information about invention and an approach to develop a cleaner world in the future.

Why convertion to electric

To make the world cleaner and because it is two-thirds cheaper in TCO. (total cost ownerschip). You cannot buy such strong EV 4×4 today. Indestructible offroad cars remain necessary to help get all the work done, more than 95% cleaner, even though we also have to generate the electricity. Doesn’t grow on trees. We will come back to this later.

When we started working on this in-axel-idea, we discovered that no car manufacturer is planning to produce a powerful 4×4 electric car/truck comparable to the indestructible fuel Land Rover Defender or Range Rover or the bulletproof Toyota Landcruiser. That will take years and years. Because car OEM’s (manufacturers) do not have the funds to develop 4x4EV’s. All R&D money goes to passenger cars only. No money left over.

At the forefront of offroad EV design

We have designed the solution that nobody dared to develop: build an electric motor in the middle of the (classic-) axle, connected in line with the big wheels. An additional advantage is that we no longer need all those gearboxes, so we can get rid of them. And we can also get rid of the 35% resistance caused by all those gears.

Where the differential(s) sits now (yellow dot) we mount our e-motor. Look under your Land Rover or Toyota Landcruiser; that big ball in the middle is the differential. We remove this and install our electric motor in the same place (in the middle of the axel, front and rear).

We convert your car into a powerful electric one. We are not changing the basic construction; we are only swaping the old differential to electric. Your brakes, shock absorbers, (air-) springs, chassis mounting & fixing points, everything remains original. You put all that stuff back on our new electric axles.

Extra: that means no problems with your government inspections for your registration number or plates, now changed to an Electric Vehicle (EV) now.

We sell a robust, powerful and safe 3-in-1 electric unit, including hi/low gear and torque-sensing TORSEN differential. Feels you car gets double horsepower (280PK) overnight. Of course we take out the fuel engine, all gearboxes and transfer box, fuel tank, radiator etc. A total of 475 kg old metal goes out. (melting down for re-use, grow circular industry)

This rigorous approach has enabled us to create lots of space and save weight for our electric drive system. Our development even reduces the weight of your ex-fuel 4×4 car, changing to electric & batteries.

What is the total cost of this conversion?

You purchase two electric axles for € 34.500, the largest battery pack for € 18.000 (400km/250miles range). An a small battery pack for € 4.500 (100km/60miles range). It turned out to be easier to make a new axle that fits perfectly, tailormade. This also works faster and is therefore cheaper in terms of labour. A three or four days swap as a result. Only the costs of your garage around the corner are added to that.

Started quietly

The biggest problem we encountered was that such a strong electric-motor did not exist, it was not for sale anywhere. That’s the reason no brand has implemented this idea we realised. Because developing such electric motor is very expensive.

And yet we did it. No overheads, no large teams, started in 2016, just feet on the ground and getting things done.

Batteries

No reliable EV (Electric Vehicle) without reliable batteries all know. So we investigated since 2017 all kinds of batteries. New ones, different brands, and re-used lithium (iron) batteries and even re-used from e-bicycles the last year. The cells are almost the same you know? We focus on these today. But the choice is yours.

Where shall we place those batteries?

We discussed this within the team. We have developed one size (fits all) strong aluminium boxes in which the cells (packs) are arranged. We pre-heat these box in winter time when charging. This “standard” box fits under any rugged 4×4, inbetween the strong chassis, whether it’s one, two, or up to four boxes.

The space to the road has even increased! We can handle more mud on tour. And we also get rid of the 35% resistance caused by all those gearsboxes: that means 35% less weight to carry as well. And you need to buy 35% FEWER batteries. Then EV conversion is a lot less expensive to do. You will recoup your investment more quickly.

All kinds of possibilities later turned out to be available for installing our electric motor. We discovered (with a smile) during developments that only minor adjustments our electric driving-line can be tailor made for all 4×4 cars. So, only the track width and attachment of the brakes and shock absorbers are mounted a bit differently. It’s not rocket science.

Existing cars and new cars yet to be made

We also smiled that all new sold 4×4 cars today are fuel and need to be 100% electric converted in the near furture, this popped up after marketing search in 2022. Most OEM manufacturers sell brand-new ones still are equipped with the dirty fuel engines and all gearboxes. Only 10% is hybride, mild, only driving 100km/60miles electric, than the fuel pollutions kicks in again.

So, we are not only modifying existing 4×4 cars, but later on we will also modifying 4×4 cars that not yet have been manufactured the coming years. Such orange pick-up below: fuel driven, made in 2025, euro5 or 6. Yes, we also do pick-ups, rigid rear axle and in-crankcase differential front drive.

We want impact

There is something else about e-Rovers that is important to mention. We have opted for an easy-to-install EV-axel-set that can be mounted easy anywhere in the world. Because we don’t want to clean only 25 cars a year, but 250 or even more. There are 2 million dirty fuel burning 4x4s on the road today? And these cars pollute three times more than a normal 2 wheel fuel car? So the impact is even bigger. And Impact is what matters to us.

Not every 4×4 car is the same

Ofcourse there are 4×4 electric cars on the market today, but those are for winter sports or good acceleration grip. Or show. There are no 4×4 EVs on the market today that are made for really rugged work, when there are bad roads or no roads at all. Workhorses as we see them.

We need indestructible 100% electric 4x4s all over the world, not only Europe or America.

Governments

Please pay attention now when a government is your employer. Many authorities use these workhorses on motorways (rescue and traffic control), in forests, nature reserves, beaches and dunes, or to carry out rescues outside. There are hundreds of fuel 4×4 vehicles in the Netherlands alone, but worldwide we are talking about thousands up to 2 million polluting the world every day. Every day yes.

Such as the new Toyota Landcruiser Prado or a JLR-Land Rover Defender or Grenadier. We sell electric conversion kits for all brands remember. All our convertion sets are tailormade and send out to you, worldwide. With clear conversion instructions. And video meeting assistance if required.

Grenadier uses BMW diesel engines, Italian axles and a gearboxes from ZF.

Above diesel engines and petrol engines do not meet the Euro 6 standard and will be banned in the near future. EU regulations currently stipulate 2035, but this will likely be extended to 2040. Another watered-down weak climate summit in Brazil end of November 2025. However, that is only 15 years before you encounter problems. This is an attractive prospect for investors: the above vehicles will also be coming to us for conversion kits.

e-Rovers is not a community

Sometimes we hear: “are you a green community?” If you read all the information here. NO, we develop, design and sell these sets in a business model and make electric 4×4 drivetrains only (and battery boxes).

But we do try to answer questions here we got since 2021 as we noted above. We provide you with all insights into the electric conversion issues. That’s why we explain much more than just the commercial talk.

Others

Various methods we have been seen all over. Many electric 4×4 car converters use an ordinary electric motor; easy and cheap to buy, but not really suitable for electric powering or mounted inside the car-axel. Often not to placed something in the car, for example, quickly grabbed at the gearbox. Keep the old drivetrain intact, carry along many gears. These easy to buy e-motors are widely used in industry; for dollies, or conveyor belts in a hall, for a lift in a building … or they install old Tesla drives for example or the Chinese stuff.

All these electric motors rev (revolutions) much too high to drive the large offroader wheels 1 to 1 and need the many gears to reduce this. Eat power away for nothing. Or these e-motors are just to heavy, to big, not watertight etc. Or others build in-wheel-motors and have to develop the entire suspension, shock absorbers and brakes from scratch. That costs a fortune and it is impossible to deliver 250 or more per year. Nice but no impact.

An the end, we came up with our solutions. We design and produce a strong lightweight 3-in-1 electro motor and have become independent of any supplier. Because we have become a manufacturer today ourselves, this took 8 years to achieve. That’s nice in today’s strange world.

At the forefront

Why Dutch? The Netherlands are one of the most densely populated areas in the world and below sea level in central Europe. We have too many cars, cows, pigs, chickens, iron- and chemical plants and tulips. Perhaps we feel the need doing something about global warming a bit more, even though we are a very small country.
