Quite logical, we wanted to keep our own Land Rover, we’d already bought and paid for it. So we didn’t want to buy another offroad car running on electric. We’re convert our own 4×4 car to electric (called truck in US).
There are many ways to fit an electric motor into a car. But where is the best place to put it? The first meeting has taken place in 2015. e-Rovers was born. Why we designed our e-convertion this way explained under yellow dot!
We designed an axle with the entire electric drive system built into it (in the yellow dot). Swap & Charge & Go. That was our aim. And keep the cost of the set under €35.000.

Just swap the old axles to ours and leave the rest as it is – that’s what we make. And this way you get plenty of space for your batteries. That’s nice too. Converting any Land Rover to electric EV (electric vehicle) in a week. Or even faster – in three days. All rigorous testing has been completed. Sets will be send to you world wide.
You can see the rear axle above, but one set also includes the front axle: 2-e-motor drive on 4 wheels. We are the only company in the world to manufacture this system. This gives you the most efficiency, from the electric energy stored in the battery onto the road in sand, mud or tarmac. We have managed to eliminate all resistance, from battery to the wheels and managed a long range to drive electric. (400km/250miles).
It later turned out that our e-axle sets fits under any 4×4 vehicle (with a minor modification done in our factory). So it’s not just for Land Rovers, no it’s made for all 4×4 branches.
Why we design it this way
Since 2022, we’ve often been asked why we chose this difficult method of electric conversion – after all, doesn’t everyone else do it differently? It would be much easier and more logical and simple to buy an electric motor (off the shelf) or fit an old one from Tesla or Nissan. Lots of extra advantages if you manage to power the axle electrically. Product first. is our way.
A brief explanation why we differ strongly from others
There are many companies that convert existing fuel 4×4 cars in the world, yes Land Rovers too. We approach EV design from a completely different perspective, we set that out as clear as possible below. Product-first. Impact later, with many more benefits all round:
- The electric conversion takes place in your own area; because any local garage can do it, it’s not much work (low labour).
- Our package costs €34,500, plus the cost of the battery: €4,000 for the small pack, up to €18,000 for the large packs, offering 400 km/250 miles of driving pleasure. We can use bi-directional charging (home to car and vice versa). (Convert the euro to your currency please).
- We ship complete sets to you worldwide. You don’t need to bring your car to us, unlike with other companies. Not months of work to complete the e-conversion.
- You remove 450kg/992lbs from your 4×4 car and replace it with 380kg/873lbs of batteries and our two electric axels set. All including a LCD dash screen, converter and charger. We’ll naturally remove the engine but all the gearsboxes are removed too (which others certainly don’t do, ask them). Explanation of why gearboxes get out is down this page. Did you know that there are so many gears involved, all of which consume power? It’s one loss after another. With us, the battery has a much easier job…
- We offer by far the most smooth-running 4×4 e-drive system (91% efficiency). As a result, we use 35% fewer batteries as others need to reach for the same impressive range. So you spend 35% less money on batteries as a start. And also save a great deal of battery weight, which means your 4×4 car performs better on rough terrain. Batteries remain expensive and heavy.
- We re-use batteries from data centres and hospitals. (no mining for lithium and cobalt). A very high level of circularity – it doesn’t get any better than that (extra saves the need for mining at least 1.850kg/4.078lbs) of new raw materials, iron, plastic etc for every new car ).

- And save at the same time a lot of energy that would otherwise be used to manufacture that new products and transport them across the globe to the OEM factory. After all, your 4×4 car is right there in front of you: built, paid for and ready to go as an EV a second life starting. (OEM=original equipment manufacturer). The energy saved would be better off fed straight into the grid to heat homes. A much greater benefit can be achieved.
- Our e-Rovers electric motor is connected directly to the wheels by two short shafts; there’s no loss of power anywhere – all resistance gone. And yet a high-low gear system and a torsen differential per axle. As the good old days.
- Now we can convert any 4×4 vehicle, the e-axel is very easy to adjust (in the factory) to your car, including those new ones yet to be built; our product will remain highly attractive for at least 15 years, if not longer. Hybrids are an interim solution; they’ll eventually have to become 100% electric too. With our powertrain, of course. Everyone thinks that only old 4x4s can be EV converted, but the market for new ones is set to be even bigger over the next 20 years. 90% of those sold today are still dirty fuel-powered 4x4s.
- The entire set is made in the Netherlands, Europe; e-Rovers is a factory, independent of the whims of other EV manufacturers. That’s certainly a relief in today’s world. We can also create jobs in other countries by carrying out local conversions using our sets, wherever in the world. That opens up a wealth of opportunities for everyone.
These are a few very important key points. We go into detail on the website. You don’t need to trawl through the whole site to understand our USP.
Electric Mobility
However, recent weeks have made it very clear that it is not particularly wise to remain dependent on fossil fuels for transport and other sectors. We can hear all the EV drivers here laughing and saving loads of money. That’s what it’s all about … You’re doing two things at once: keeping an eye on your wallet and driving cleanly to protect the environment in your own 4×4. We’ll come back to why driving an EV is so much cheaper and also why we re-use batteries.
Start e-Rovers

Basically, we were worried that we would end up scrapping millions of good Land Rovers, simply because they were too polluting for this world. But if we could come up with an easy-to-fit electric convertion, we could possibly rescue a huge number. Hurrah! So we start to work on this project, funding it by ourselves the next years. We can prevent this nightmare scenario for Land Rover and other 4×4 lovers.
This nightmare scenario is not quite there yet; the scrapyard photo above was taken with a touch of artistic ingenuity. But in time, we’ll see scrapyards full of 4×4 that are still in good working order. Why buy a new one, anyway? Do you ever think about that? And we’re also talking about genuine cult cars that really evoke something everywhere. Re-use them we shout!
It’s easy to build something when you have plenty of money to pay; building something that works on a tighter budget is a lot harder. But then the market is also many times larger.
The first logical question for us was: where to built the electric motor(s)? And which e-motor can we buy for that? It had already become clear for us that those hundreds of kilos of old-fashioned iron had to go, along with the whole energy-guzzling gears systems. We drive Land Rovers ourselves, since 1978 and have spent a lot of time working on them.

Last updated: 2nd of june 2026. All Rights Reserved. Reading time for this page is 15 minutes, and the entire 5 pages takes approximately 2 hours to read. We’re writing this site in UK English; because nobody can read Dutch… If the text sounds a bit clunky, we’re working on it. If we want to make an impact, the set will need to be suitable for the whole world. You are welcome to immerse yourself in the world of electric conversions. It was more challenging than we anticipated in 2015. Feel free to skip the rest of reading if you’re in a hurry and just want to see if this is something for you.
A distinctive writing style
This site is written in a more accessible and detailed style than the usual commercial blabla. Because we’re writing this information out of the box for a very wide audience. Beginners, professionals and those with a background in finance will all find what they’re looking for here.
What to explain to you by converting a Defender or Landcruiser 4×4 to a 100% electric car in three days, rather than buying a new EV 4×4 one? It’s important to involve all to understand. No vague nonsense, just a clear explanation. And prices on first page. We tell you our green story, with a simple explanation of how we managed it technically. Product first.

Our electric motor
Now, a bit about the technology behind it. So our e-set axels invention couldn’t be made using off-the-shelf components, we discovered. That was the first major setback in 2015. They simply didn’t exist. So we had to developed the e-axel in-house and start assembling all parts for testing. We were delighted to discover that we could also bolt the “yellow drive unit” onto short axles as modern 4×4 cars are using, called an independent suspension. (then the unit is bolted to the body, the 2 short axles mounted in a streaght line to the wheels). By coordinating the production, we have become an independent manufacturer using our switched reluctance motor. (SRM). It works perfectly with our own dedicated converter and computer; it’s robustly built and, of course, shock- and waterproof; we can handle the latest 800-volt systems.
This electric motor will fit into your old axle, our initial idea, but it actually made more sense to make a completely new one made from lighter recycled aluminium. That way, we could adapt everything at the factory for all 4×4 cars, couldn’t we? And suddenly the global market becomes huge. In fact, we’re becoming a reverse car factory for second lives. Just swap the axle, charge it and off you go. Electric. “Keep the car, just change the drivetrain”.

We understood in 2018 why this idea hadn’t yet made it to market. It’s too expensive for an OEM manufacturer to develop such drive for offroad cars that aren’t new. They’d rather sell new cars, wouldn’t they? What’s more, the 4×4 market is simply too small for OEM to make a significant investment. e-Rovers stepped into that gap.
Why we simply started designing, according to the initiator: “You can think things through at length, but if you don’t give it a go, you’ll never know what will happen”, says the inventor with a smile. So we carried on drawing; one setback out of the way. But others need to get moving too. How can we persuade the authorities to do the same? Just START product first.
Get started
Public GOVERNMENTS, NGO’s and other leaders in charge are all caught up in mission statements, values documents, purpose sessions. Blabla for years. Wasted years! Start to build this year one EV-test vehicle within your organisation.
Do not waiste time any more. Fuel is getting more expensive every day now and so is converting to electric. That’s just going to hit your wallet (public funds) if you stay in blabla.

We often speak to public staff who need to work in the countryside. Example: in a new Volvo or Audi EV 4×4 you can’t even fit a dead deer in the back or drive through a wet ditch. That used to be normal, didn’t it? Everyone would love to go back to the Land Rover Defender or the wonderful Toyota Land Cruiser. But, fuel fumes and oil leaks are no longer an option in nature either. So what to buy? Petrol again?
A government we know even tested two electric Land Rovers (factory borrowed) from Solihull UK, the two LR pic above. The e-110’s were very expensive (€135,000 each). We offer you a much better deal. (Staatsbosbeheer, LR Solihull simply swapped the engine for an electric motor; all the gearboxes remained in place and the range was only 60 miles).
Solihull decided not to go ahead with the electric version, as they already knew that production of the Defender was due to cease shortly.
But outside the PR bubble to speak only green, impatience is growing worldwide. Customers, children, many employees and investors are increasingly fed up with all that empty talk. They no longer want to hear about who you are. They want to know what you deliver: e-Rovers deliver a 3/4rd cost cut (TCO) and 100% clean electric driving, re-using your 4×4 you have, using batteries from data- or hospitals as an option. And bi-directional charging (to your home). And this will significantly reduce the load on the local electricity grid. (TCO is total cost of ownership).

What whoom we made
Below are all the models we can supply for electric conversion; there are even more brands featured throughout the site:

Just how difficult is an EV conversion really?
How do you convert your car to run on electricity? We would like to take you on a journey. The dark side of 4 stroke engines. We differ from all other electric conversion specialists by removing the entire traditional drivetrain. Of course, we’ll remove the fuel combustion engine. All do. It already blow away 60% of the energy, basicly contained in fuel. Through heat and friction losses and burning it at the end. The 4-stroke principle, and 3-strokes are pointless, is very uneconomical.
But we do more. All the gears turning in the drivetrain – around 145 of them – are removed. You can count them yourself in the cross-sections below. Every gear-set reduces (and eat-) power. As a result, around 35% of the power delivered by the fuming 4-stroke engine to the clutch is lost before before it reaches the wheels. That’s why the Solihull Land Rovers only managed 100km/60 miles on a single charge. They left all the gears in … and they had to fit all the batteries into the car …
So, to start with our first ideas, We removed 450 kilograms/992Lbs of old parts and gained a lot of space for the batteries between the chassis (not in the car), as the drive system is built into the two axles. So e-Rovers need 35% fewer batteries (gears and diffs out) to achieve the same result in range, so we spend 35% less on expensive batteries too. We show below a cross-sectional diagram of all the gear parts that are no longer used. To the melter voor re-use please. The dealers page provides step-by-step instructions.
Dutch e-Rovers
We are a company specialised in converting to Electric Vehice (EV) only for robust and indestructible 4×4 vehicles. Daily used for demanding work in challenging terrain. Where there are often no roads at all.
Once we’d built the electric motor, it turned out that it’s very easy to adjust the track width and the mounting of the axles, as every make and model is slightly different. But that’s no rocket science. Actually, for all brands of 4×4 vehicles we make EV-sets, both those already on the road (since 1965) and those 4×4 fuelcars yet to be manufactured from 2026 up and those hybrids too we expect that they will be converted in 10 years’ time to 100% EV. More on this later. A few examples all over the site. We don’t deal with 911s, VWs or Bentleys. But we can convert all the 4×4 cars.

Invest in e-Rovers
Alarmism without a clear course of action breeds apathy and helplessness. But if we all pull together, we believe we can achieve something that has become rare: a sense of unity. Join us and use your influence and money to bring about change that benefits everyone. Choose this inspiring goal: converting 2 million diesel 4x4s to electric power, all over the world. We calculated that the pollution caused by all 4×4 vehicles worldwide is five times that of a city like New York in a year. That market is big enough to develop and sell something for we know today.
(New York is as big as half the Netherlands. With a population of 22.6 million, the entire urban conurbation (the Tri-State Area) is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world. The city of New York consists of five boroughs: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island, Source: Wikipedia)
Sustainable transition

Climate expert optimistic about the transition to renewable energy: “The main focus now is on how we can phase out fossil fuels”. (Source: Emeritus Professor Pier Vellinga, change.inc, May 2026). It’s called TRANSITION, and we’ve only just got started. Join in.
Costs for Upcycle the 4×4 truck in front of you
e-Rovers manufacture a ready-to-fit electric axel set and ship this all over the world. Costs 34.000 euro for our 2 e-axles (more on page prices & Specs). The battery packs ranging from 4.500 to 18.000 euro for sufficient driving time (18K is for 400km/250miles). 80% charged in 25 minutes, 10 minutes per 100 km/60 miles.
These aluminium axles, with the electric motors already installed, can be easily fitted (any local garage/shop) and still using your own shock absorbers, brakes and any air suspension or ABS. A reason for a simplified inspection for EV number plates. We keep 85% of the car unchanged to avoid difficult MOT/TüV tests.
However, in most people’s minds, sustainability and technology don’t go hand in hand. Sustainability implies that they have to make compromises on a product they use from the moment they wake up until they go to bed, work & holidays. It’s always there, so it has to work properly. So we made such convertion, with exactly the same solid foundation, but now with an electric drive. The only noticeable difference is that it runs quietly with zero emissions and costs three-quarters less per day.

We show the costs right away, so you don’t have to chase them up and end up with huge quotations. We thought that anyone could do it for a lot of money, so we decided to take a different approach. And that’s what we’ve been doing since the beginning of this project.
Lets begin with the basics of driving and fuel consumption
Every car consumes a fuel (diesel, petrol (gasoline), gasGPL, HVO, H2), or electricity per kilometre/mile driven. Whether it is fuel burning in a 4-stoke engine or electricity to power the (magnetic-) electric motors. Did you know that an off-road 4×4 vehicle consumes three times as much fuel as a normal car? After all, the energy required to move any vehicle per distance travelled is basicly the same, whether it runs on fuel or electricity. That amount of energy is measured in kW per km/mile (kilowatt). An important observation to start the basics.
So the fuel comes from the tank (the website features a video showing how we obtain fuel), and the electricity from the battery. So far so good. That’s where the e-Rovers difference lies: how can we use as little kilowatts per km/mile as possible? We figured it out, you can read it here.
We focus since 2015 the entire engineering on consuming as little kW as possible per kilometre/mile. Then less electric storage is needed, meaning a smaller battery. And fewer batteries are cheaper than needing more batteries. And fewer batteries are much lighter to carry to cover the same distance, namely at least 400 km/250 miles. e-Rovers basic range for a heavy 4×4 car or truck. Weighing over 2 tons with the streamlined shape of a bungalow. Not bad.
As a result we can maintain the original weight of your 4×4 car or even make it lighter. This lighter in turn makes for a better off-road vehicle than your fuel one. And because the batteries can be fitted underneath the car, the centre of gravity is now lower, meaning the car can handle even rougher terrain much better than the original fuel version. The distance between the battery and the road has also increased. After all, the low-mounted gearboxes are no longer in the way. Advantages only with our concept.
These are the key factors that enable e-Rovers to offer you a truly unique electric conversion set. Keep your beloved car, just install a clean electric drive in it, often powered by your solar panels. Independent in this strange world as a bonus.
Internal old resistance we remove
Gears removed as we spoke above. Here we show you all the components under your car that account for 60+35% of energy loss: 35% from all the gears and 60% from the 4-stroke fuel engine. We were talking about counting parts earlier above: (only part nr 10/11 we re-use)

You have two differentials, one front and one at the rear, so:

Many gears; individually, they experience resistance in the bearings and due to the oil. All those components are necessary in a combustion engine because the engine can only deliver a limited amount of power within a narrow rev range (spin around). So you have to change gear frequently. You’ll be familiar with this from all cars: using the clutch and accelerator to make it change smoothly. Now, an electric motor delivers plenty of power from zero right up to maximum revs. So gear changes are no longer necessary. So out go those components. It also saves a further 450 kilograms.

And the 4-stroke engine,This is a 4-cylinder engine, but 4×4 vehicles also come with 6-cylinder or V8 engines. :

Now you can surely see why we are able to achieve such high efficiency with just two electric axes, by eliminating all the cross-sections watched above.
Summarise
Our electric motor drives the wheels directly from the center, where the differential used to be located in the two old axles. Our entire electric drive system is located within the yellow circle, one front and one rear. Thats it.

More benefits of this approach it allows us to mount the batteries in the freed-up space (in sturdy aluminum boxes and heated in winter time). All safe under and not in the car. And all space remains available in the car as usual.
Make the world more circular

We came up with this idea in 2015
“CHANGE THE DRIVE, NOT THE CAR“
The best way to stop polluting is to stop polluting
It seems simple, but it isn’t. How are you going to drive without fuel? If you need to continue using your sturdy and rugged 4×4 fuel car for work and/or pleasure and you don’t want (or cannot) downgrade to an ordinary EV passenger car (the same as your neighbours?). Keep 4×4 driving where there are no roads at all? You want to keep doing what you are used to do? Just sit back and wait years until a car manufacturer finally decides to make one for you, a strong rugged 4×4 EV?
“We understand that, we wanted the same thing and that is how we started this adventure in 2015”, explains the initiator, my first 4×4 was a Land Rover 88 Series 3 in 1979. We went all the way… From Petrolhead to Electrohead.
All brands
If you want to make an impact, you shouldn’t focus on just one brand. The modifications to the an axle turned out not to be rocket science. The base-electric-power-product is inside a strong electric drive unit that can be easily adapted to any 4×4 rugged brand. And that’s exactly what we do. And send it all over the world to you. Your local garage can fit it in three days. For more tech information, see the dealers page.
How can we put this EV axels into practice?

If you don’t own a 4×4, there’s another option. You can buy a brand-new petrol-powered Toyota Land Cruiser and convert it to 100% electric straight away using our kit. That would set you back around €60,000 – the same price as a TeslaX or VW e-Buzz, but you’d get a powerful, rugged 4×4 that can handle anything. See the example above.
As a government body, you can order in batches of 50 Landcruisers from us, which brings the cost down significantly. And as a government body, you can save on VAT and BPM. Why not give it some thought? Think outside the box – come on. Funding is available for this from the EU.
Public authorities: come on outside the box
That rugged new electric 4×4 car you need is not jet for sale. “We often forget that governments are not untouchable glass buildings, but people like you and me who stand next to each other in the supermarket. We live in the same world that we all pollute. Do you realise this, civil servant? Then take action now and start the discussion to launch a demo project in your team”, explains the head of e-Rovers R&D.
A strange observation emerged during conversations: “There are three major obstacles to change within government: a lack of direction and clarity, a lack of capacity, and a lack of motivation,” says Professor Karen Maas of the Impact Center Rotterdam. “As long as these issues are ignored, it will remain all talk and little action.” (Source: change.inc, 23 March 2026)

“Working with Rijkswaterstaat, Staatsbosbeheer, estate management, emergency services and others means working together with governments,” innitiator say. “So you’re dealing with a bureaucracy full of systems and processes. We entrepreneurs need to realise that. For years, those government doors have been slamming shut in our faces. Over and over again, right up until last week… That has to change, and quickly.”
What we need
In basic a sustainable investing is shifting from a moral label to measurable risk management; you can simply achieve stable profits. Old industry without a green label, making no profits in the furture. You have to move forewards. As an investor, you no longer need to be a vegetarian, clean-minded futurist to participate.
Sticking to the mission, just when things got exciting
Since 2015, we have been working to resolve all technical issues and develop this impressive e-drive system. Furthermore, we are able to utilise used batteries from hospitals and/or data centres. We run high voltage, giving less heat an more power. More on this later.
We are also making an EV- set for the new Jeep below (Stellantis) and in fact for all the vehicles you will find on the site. More sets will be added, for example for the heavier Unimog or the 4×4 Iveco (FTP) and army vehicles.

Dealers
We supply you with a complete set: a tailormade set for your type and brand. More about this on page Contact & Dealer info.

Our product can be used worldwide. But we’ve already mentioned that. Here are a few examples of the projects we’re currently working on.

Going on safari or game-parks in Africa: if the car is breaking down, with lions and hippos all around. No modern new hybrid can do that safe because of all the sensors and computers in modern cars are not made for this tracks.
You can now easy convert your car to 100% electric rugged and safe driving. Battery Electric Vehicle is the product description (BEV). We guarantee a reliable off-roader that will always bring you home. Your only concern is to keep an eye on the charge level. That’s all. (that was also the case with the fuel in the tank, wasn’t it?)

We can address many different mobility issues with this single e-Rovers electric platform, to switch to go green. The development is done. And for many governments.
This site is not only a story to persuade you to buy our product
The motif is called TRANSITION and we have only just begun. Nature is already issuing warnings. You can read about this almost daily. For the deniers, we have created the Why page…
Governments fuel cars still everywhere…

PLUG-IN
Africa is currently very enthusiastic about our approach to conversion. We are building a network in Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa. Other countries will follow. Connect.
We offer in Africa a clean way to quickly convert old diesel 4×4 cars that are reaching the end of their technical lifetime (500.000km) into electric vehicles in all those countries. There is plenty of sunshine and solar energy is already available. We are also happy to work with European solar manufacturers, such as Triple Solar.
All these vehicles, as the Toyota below, can be converted locally. We ship the e-sets worldwide with instructions and video support when needed.

Stop buying fuels and think about your wallet
From a financial point of view, it is today cheaper to purchase and drive an electric (converted-) vehicle rather than one with a combustion dirty engine. When you consider the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership.) Fortunately, the notion that it would be costly is now a thing of the past.
This calculation is simple: your 4×4 car consumes 1 litre of diesel or petrol per 8 to 11 kilometres, you know how many kilometres/miles you will drive per year, and your car will last 15 years or more. Then you will spend twice as much money as you would now to convert your car. And then there is road tax and other taxes if you continue to drive a fuel-powered car. And don’t forget to factor in maintenance costs. An EV does not require maintenance, except for tyres and sometimes brake pads. (Slowing down gives you power back to the battery, so those brakes will last forever).
For us it turned out to be easier to make new axle(s) that fits perfectly and are tailormade. This also works faster for you and is therefore cheaper in terms of labour. Gives a quick swap-time as a result. Only the costs of your local garage are added. And (re-used-) batteries are becoming cheaper every day nowadays. Today, 10 minutes for every 100 kilometres/60 miles driven. And charging speeds are increasing.
Batteries
No reliable EV (Electric Vehicle) without reliable batteries. So we investigated since 2017 all kinds of batteries. New ones, different brands, and re-used lithium (iron) batteries and even re-used from e-bicycles the last year. The cells are almost the same you know? We focus on these today. But the choice is yours.

Where are those batteries?
They fit under the 4×4 car, leaving you with plenty of space inside the car. We also think it’s much safer. So we have developed an one size (fits all) strong aluminium boxes in which the cells (packs) are arranged. This “standard” box fits under any rugged 4×4, inbetween the strong chassis, so you can choose one box or more, depending on your usage/range to drive daily. We can fit between one and five boxes in one car. We do pre-heat these box(es) in winter time when charging and bi-directional fixed to your house or the net.
These power-packs (boxes) are located in the same place where the three gearboxes and transfer case used to be. What we dismantled, including the engine, weighed minimal 450 kg/992Lbs. We thought, let’s get rid of it, useless ballast for an electric car. We want to use as little power as possible per 100km/60miles. We mentioned that in the first section.
The space to the road has even increased! Another advantage of removing the complete old drive system. And more 4×4 fun, because we have more torque-power, have become lighter and have more ground clearance. The maximum sideways angle of inclination has also increased.

If there is no rigid axle, we can also provide independently suspended drive with our e-drive with short drive shafts, as in all modern 4×4 cars. We can even provide two different types in one car (such as pick-up trucks: rigid back & independantly in front)
We want impact
Ofcourse there are some 4×4 electric cars on the market today, but those are for winter sports or good acceleration grip. Or show around the block. There are no 4×4 EVs sold on the market today that are made for really rugged work, when there are only bad roads or no roads at all. Workhorses as we see them and used for many years.
And let’s be honest, driving such a cool rugged car is awesome, and now it’s electric as a bonus. We do need indestructible 100% electric 4x4s all over the world, not only for Europe, Africa, Canada or America. For outbanned work, fire brigade, highway assistance, many authorities, rescue, hunters and beach lifeguards. And finally, for your horse-drawn trailer or your nature trips in beautiful areas in your rugged offroader. As you are used to. Last page we do many roof-tents and offroad pictures all over the world. What we love to do. Below picture driving in a (so called) game park in Kenia Africa:

Future as we see it
A circular world in progress. The e-Rovers philosophy: you save a lot of new digged materials by converting your 4×4 car that is parked outside, do not purchase new, re-use it.
It will be many years before manufacturers (OEM) can invest enough money to deliver a truly robust 100% electric vehicle. We don’t want to wait that long. Are you prepared to put up with pollution levels five times higher than New York’s every year? Upgrade your 4×4 this year and don’t put it off any longer. The market for this is simply too small to invest big; let’s face it.
We create a tailormade-set for all offroad cars/trucks that have their photo on the entire site and suddenly that market has become huge, you see? All existing 4x4s are being converted to EVs we call this IMPACT.

Grenadier uses BMW diesel engines, Italian axles and a gearboxes from ZF.

e-Rovers is not a community
Sometimes we hear: “are you a green community?” NO, we develop, design and sell these sets in a business model and make electric 4×4 drivetrains only (and battery boxes).
Why such a long story then? Because we do try to answer questions we got since the beginning in 2015. We like to provide you with insights into the electric conversion issues. That’s why we explain much more here than just the blabla commercial talk.
And we are here to sell you stuff and together we can make a huge IMPACT for a less polluted world for our children in the future. Continue reading on the other pages if you would like to learn more about the technique and explore it in greater depth.
The story to take you on this adventure ends here. You can read about why others choose a different way to convert a car, why from the Netherlands and how we see the future with new e-Rovers own EV models below and on the other pages.
Take a break and have a coffee or a beer and let it sink in. It’s a lot of information.
Thank you for reading, the e-Rovers team.

Others
Various methods we have been seen all over. Many other electric 4×4 car converters use an ordinary electric motor; easy and cheap to buy, but not really suitable for electric powering or mounted inside the car-axel. Often not to placed something in the car, for example, quickly grabbed at the gearbox. Keep the old drivetrain intact, carry along many gears. These easy to buy e-motors are widely used in industry; for dollies, or conveyor belts in a hall, for a lift in a building … or they install old Tesla drives for example or the Chinese stuff.
All these electric motors rev (revolutions) much too high to drive the large offroader wheels 1 to 1 and need the many gears to reduce this. Eat power away for nothing. Or these e-motors are just to heavy, to big, not watertight etc. Or others build in-wheel-motors and have to develop the entire suspension, shock absorbers and brakes from scratch. That costs a fortune and it is impossible to deliver 250 or more per year. Nice but no impact.
At the forefront
Why Dutch? The Netherlands in Europe are one of the most densely populated areas in the world and below sea level in central Europe. We have too many cars, cows, pigs, chickens, iron- and chemical plants and tulips. Perhaps we feel the need doing something about global warming a bit more, even though we are a very small country. The sea is comming up because of heating up the earth. And we are allready below sea-level. Our motivation.
Here is a sneak preview of what we can do
There are still hundreds brandnew fuel Toyota Landcruisers (Euro3) available for sale, which can be converted by us. Government: for less than the cost of a new fuel-powered 4×4 you are considering purchasing an electric one. Five electric Toyota EV cars for the price of three diesel cars (same investment). Do you know that? Strive for impact!

There is no Planet B … (the logo we use).
